Family Heirloom Restorations is owned and operated by James Matar, a second-generation artisan who has over 20 years of hands-on experience with every aspect of furniture restoration and refinishing.  Trained by his late father Edward, an old-world craftsman and carver with European training, Matar apprenticed with his father in cabinet-making and carvings.  At a young age he understood his father's words:  "No short cuts.  Do it right, or don't do it at all."

James Matar's background allows him to custom-mix all his stains and paints.  He specializes in all kinds of faux finishes such as marbleizing, painting grains, and gold-leafing, setting new standards of perfection in the art of furniture restoration and refinishing.

Matar's natural talent, combined with his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson Univeristy, has allowed him to custom-design and build one-of-a-kind furinture.  James Matar pledges that he will focus on the uniqueness of your furniture and will work with you to your satisfaction.  "I will preserve your heirlooms for generations to come, with honesty and integrity."  View our Gallery for samples of Matar's work.
